February is still winter for many, but longer daylight hours signal that plants will soon wake up for spring. Here’s what you should do this month to keep your houseplants healthy and ready for growth!

1. Light Adjustments ☀️
Days are getting longer, so rotate plants to ensure even growth.
Clean dust off leaves to maximize light absorption.
If using grow lights, adjust their timing to mimic the increasing daylight.
2. Watering 💧
Keep watering light—most plants are still in their winter dormancy.
Check soil moisture before watering. Water only when the top 1-2 inches are dry.
Be mindful of humidity—indoor heating can dry plants out, so consider misting or using a humidifier.
3. Humidity & Temperature 🌡️
Keep plants away from cold drafts and heat sources (radiators, vents, fireplaces).
Group humidity-loving plants together or use a humidity tray with pebbles and water.
4. Pest Check 🔍
Look out for spider mites, fungus gnats, and mealybugs—they thrive in dry indoor air.
Wipe leaves with a damp cloth and use neem oil or insecticidal soap if needed.
5. Fertilizing 🌱
Hold off or use sparingly! Most houseplants don’t need much fertilizer until early spring.
If you notice new growth, you can start a diluted feeding schedule.
6. Repotting & Pruning ✂️
Avoid major repotting unless roots are severely root-bound.
Trim off dead or yellow leaves to encourage fresh spring growth.
If you’re propagating, February is a great time to start cuttings for spring rooting.
7. Preparing for Spring 🌸
Begin planning for repotting in March-April.
Stock up on fresh potting soil, fertilizer, and pots for the growing season.
Bonus: If you got a Valentine’s Day plant, make sure to check its care needs and slowly acclimate it to your home! ❤️🌿
